Jay & Darla Tatman – Owners “As a young paratrooper in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC, I learned some valuable life lessons summed up in the 82nd airborne slogan, “ALL THE WAY!”  Darla and I have carried those lessons over to API.  We have deliberately set the highest possible standards for ourselves and our company so that we are able to offer our clients and referring agents the best possible inspection service available today.  If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing all the way.”   -  Jay Tatman   In 2002, after a two and a half year adventure traveling the 48 continental United States together, Jay Tatman and his wife Darla relocated from Southern California where Jay was born and raised, to Darla's home state of Indiana and founded Assured Property Inspections.  They first settled in Indiana's eastern Clay County and in May of 2005 moved to the west side of Hendricks County to expand Assured Property Inspections into the Indianapolis market.  Jay and Darla developed their deep understanding of the real estate transaction and the critical role of the home inspector over many years working in the real estate industry.  Jay was first licensed as a real estate broker in California in the 1980’s where he sold real estate and stays current on real estate issues today while maintaining an Indiana real estate broker license.  Jay also, held a position as general manager for a large California real estate franchise office with 50 agents and later opened Assured Realty, a small residential real estate company.  Darla, also a real estate broker, sold real estate early in her career, but preferred her 18 year career in residential lending.  Darla owned Modern Mortgage Services, a California mortgage company which specialized in government financing programs (FHA/VA).     In 1994, Jay was working in Northridge, California as a foreclosure specialist when on January 17th 1994, at 4:30 a.m. a devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck rendering 25,000 dwellings in a large geographic area uninhabitable.  The real estate market came to an abrupt halt.  Inspectors were in short supply.  Clients needed their properties inspected for damage and repaired so that they could be put back on the market.  Jay’s inspection career was literally launched without notice.  Jay began working with structural consultants and contractors inspecting homes and overseeing repairs for clients.     Jay has received accolades from his Indianapolis Ivy Tech College students for his work as an adjunct faculty member where he has taught the state required Home Inspection Pre-Licensing and continuing education courses.
